Somatic Experiencing® is a body-oriented psychotherapy approach that helps people reconnect with themselves and process trauma, and stress. SE helps people notice bodily sensations, and develop more of a moment to moment awareness of both their inner felt-sense, and also the world around. The goal is to help you develop new thinking patterns and behaviors to better respond to emotions and experiences.
SE was developed by Dr. Peter Levine and is based on a combination of physiology, psychology, ethology, biology, neuroscience, indigenous healing practices, and medical biophysics.
Charlotte has 15 years’ of experience in therapeutic 1:1 body and nervous system healing work, and offers personalised sessions that honour your individual story and needs.
I’m Charlotte, a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner, teacher of yoga, qigong and somatic movement, clinical and sports massage therapist, and I’m a registered somatic movement therapist. My approach is informed by my professional practice over 15 years, and my own path of recovery over a period of 20 years. I have personal experience of recovery from trauma, addiction, as well as chronic health challenges, and how somatic work can be a truly life-changing support to us with this.
In the 1:1 work together, we’ll go into a process of discovering more about you, your body, mind, emotions, and nervous system, and your unique patterns. We’ll bring support and learn how to heal from stress and trauma at the body and nervous system level. We’ll do this by building a steady ground in nervous system regulation, using a blend of Somatic Experiencing®, parts work, attachment healing and neurosensory exercises.

The term "somatic" originates from the Greek word "soma," referring to the living body as experienced from within. Somatic therapy brings a holistic approach to healing, recognizing the inseparable nature of mind and body.
This "bottom-up" method uses your body's inner wisdom as a compass for healing. We restore your natural rhythms and capacity for healing by building self-awareness, a sense of safety in your body and with your environment, and using simple tools like placing attention in particular ways, movement and self-touch. If you often find yourself caught in mental loops, your body may have valuable insights waiting to be heard and integrated.

Authentic healing occurs when we meet you exactly where you are, with acceptance and understanding. My 15 years of experience allow me to offer a nuanced, tailored approach for each person.
I typically work with people over either a 3 month or 6 month period of time, with one session weekly, and some guidance for gentle practice inbetween sessions. I also offer written guidance on an overview of somatic healing, theories around healing at the body nervous system level, to help you get the cognitive understanding on board as we approach the work together body, mind and spirit.
